Shogi news in brief

  • Wouter de Haas (2 kyu) became a Dutch Champion. He outran two players of 4 dan and two players of 3 dan. Hans Segers took the 2nd place, Arend van Oosten - 3rd place. Dutch Championship was held on 25th April, 16 players participated in this event.

  • 18 - 19th April in Milan (Italy) was held Italian Shogi Championship. The 1st place took Giuseppe Baggio. Mitsuki Akiyama got the 2nd place, Alessandro Pace - 3rd. There were 10 participants in Italian Shogi Championship

  • 25 - 26th April in Goteborg (Sweden) was held the 11th Goteborg Open. Jan Rabe from Sweden became the winner. Other prize-winners are Terje Christoffersen and Richard Bjerke (both Norway). 17 shogi players from Sweden, Belgium, Norway and Italy participated in Goteborg Open

  • The 14th US Shogi Championship was held in San Francisco's Japantown April 11 and 12. The prize-winners are: 1. Koji Nozawa (Chicago), 2. Keiji Ohshita (San Francisco), 3. Takeshi Furudoi (Detroit)/ 34 players participated in this tournament

  • 11-12th April the 1st Hungarian Shogi Championship was held. 23 players took part in this event. In final game Laszlo Abuczki won over Peter Vajda

  • On 8-12 April Moriuchi Tosiyuki participated in chess tournament Foxwoods Open (USA). Moriuchi got 6 pts in 9 games and took the 18th place from 127 participants. He won over FIDE masters Paul Mac Intyre (ELO 2300) and Teddy Coleman (ELO 2313) and played in a draw against IM Robert Hess (ELO 2545)

  • The 1st game 67th Meijin title match between Habu Yoshiharu (Meijin) and Goda Masataka (Challenger) was held 9-10 April. Habu won the game in 158 moves. The 2nd game will be played on 21-22 April

  • On 28-29 March it was held 2nd Minsk Open. The prize-winners: 1. Kikuta Y. (JP), 2. Korchitskij S. (BY), 3. Sinelnikov I. (RU)

Forthcoming shogi events

  • 2 - 3 May in Cambridge (Great Britain) will be held British Open Championships. Format of tournament - 6 rounds, timelimit 40min +40sec byoyomi.

  • 2 - 3 May in Rivne (Ukraine) will be held Ukrainian qualification to 3rd World Shogi Championship. Format of tournament - 6 rounds, MacMagon, timelimit 45min + 30sec byoyomi.

  • 9 - 10 May in Moscow (Russia) will be held 5th Russian Open Championships. Format of tournament - Swiss, timelimit 40min +30sec byoyomi.

Professional shogi

  • 7 - 8th May the 3rd game of 67th Meijin title match between Habu (Meijin) and Goda (Challenger) will be held.

Shogi online

  • 11 April 2009 the mass online shogi tournament was held on PlayOk at 18.00 (Paris Berlin time). Format of the tournament - Swiss, 6 rounds, timelimit 7min +30sec byoyomi. The results
