In two weeks, July 16 to 19, the ESC/WOSC 2009 will be organized in Stockholm. You are all welcome to one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe.
It is a wonderful summer weather in Sweden right now, and I suppose that many of you remember the sunshine ESC/WOSC that we organized in Ockero in 2003. The indoor temperature of the venue in Stockholm will be very comfortable for shogi.
Just like in 2003, I will be the non-playing tournament director, in order to make it a pleasant tournament for you. We aim to start all rounds on time, and you will always be updated with the necessary information for the tournament. The only thing you will have to do yourselves is to focus on winning your games.
We will also appoint the special board of complaints BEFORE the start of round 1, since we know from the history of ESC/WOSC, that there may be one or two intense games, where the final result may be disputed. There will be a fair chance to bring up complaints.
Thanks to sponsorship from Nihon Shogi Renmei, the starting fees for the ECS/WOSC 2009 have been reduced. The fee for ESC/WOSC has been reduced
from 250 SEK/25 EURO to 100 SEK/10 EURO and the fee for the blitz has been reduced from 50 SEK/5 EURO to 25 SEK/2.5 EURO.
Please pre-register as soon as possible, so that we will know how many participants there will be! You can find all necessary information at
http://hem.bredband.net/ESC/
See you in Stockholm!
Martin Danerud,
President of the Swedish Shogi Federation and tournament director for the ESC/WOSC 2009 |

The new European champion is surprisingly Jean Fortin (2k) from France.
The WOSC was won by Karl Wartlick (2d) from Germany.

| I believe Jean Fortin became the first kyu-player who managed to win the European Shogi Championship. |
