Earnings of profi players

How much money earn shogi professional players per year? You can see the top 10 money makers by playing shogi from 2002 to 2007 in the table below. It is the money which players got only by playing and winning the games in professional tournaments and matches.

Habu was the best money maker 14 times (1993-1996 and 1998-2007).

Watanabe took the 2nd place in this list the first time. This success can be explained by special match against computer program Bonanza.

This information was taken from annual reports about earnings of professionals on website of Nihon Shogi Renmei (Japanese Shogi Federation).
